This Month Featured Artist:
Great, great new release. Jack Whites' (on drums) new band will be real good for a long time.
"Die by the Drop"
"Gasoline". Janis is reborn.
- Treat Me Like Your Mother (from ist CD, "Horehound"
"Hey, Jack, who's the best guitar player?" Stupid question. But if someone held a gun to my head, here's my pick. Guitar Player mag thinks so too, in it's last issue. Surely my favorite and second biggest influence. (Zappa first)( "He uses notes that I don't have"- Jimmie Page.) Nobody can say more with a guitar then Jeff, not even Hendrix. He is the ultimate master of the string bend and vibrato as well as whammy bar technique, using those to give every note its own special character. ...and he always has the best musicians in his band, most famously with 21 year old Tal Wilkenfield on bass in 2009, but also Vinnie Coliuta on Drums, Max Middleton and Jan Hammer on keys. Enjoy.
Smokin' version of 'Scatterbrain"
Jeff Beck \w Tal Wilkenfield, Vinnie Coliuta, in small stage setting. Yeh.
"Jeff and Jennifer Batten duel on "Blue Wind"
Legendary performance at Crossroads Festival with Tal Wilkinfield on Bass
Absolutely insane Zappa... a twisted "Father O'Blivion" at Montreaux. That's George Duke on keys, and Jean-Luc Ponty on Violin, Ruth Underwood on mallet percussion.
"Watermelon in Easter Hay"- A guitarists last solo before his soul is eaten by the music industry.
...the legendary "Black Page", the 'Hardest Piece of Music Ever Written'!
The Mars Volta "Wax Simulacra"
"Goliath" at 'Abbey Road' Studio.
My favorite "Rock Band". And rock, they do.
Two Timing Touch and Broken Bone
- "Idiot Walk" -
"Die! All Right!"
UFO -extremely underated '80s band. Real blues based rock, not glam. Shows the power of the 3 piece band. You can hear every note.
Classic "Rock Bottom". Ultimate riff, Michael Schenker rips it up.
"Doctor, Doctor." . That's right , one guitar player.
PANTERA- ...and once again, the power of the three piece. Full metal testosterone...
Metal or Punk? "Fucking Hostile", at Monsters of Rock.
"Cowboys From Hell"
One of the darkest bands ever. "My God" live at Isle of Wight. Insane flute solo.
Beautifull acoustic Tull. "Skating Away (On the Thin Ice of a New Day)"
Black Jack Johnson, (w\Dr. Know, Mos Def) -"War"
- Very dangerous SoCal Punk.
"Six Pack" Punk frenzy. (Five piece Flag)
"> THE DEATH SET -live at SXSW
WENDY O. WILLIAMS/ THE PLASMATICS
Surely the most dangerous band of all time. Stage is usually on fire during performance, and they blew up cop cars on stage for real! If you think they look like Slipknot, remember this is in 1980!
Our hero Wendy is injured as she car bombs her own stage in this extraordinary two part set at an event in New York. Wendy was for real! And by the way... a great set by a great band.
"Squirm"
"Tight Black Pants" and You Ain't Got." Wendy as human car bomb.
Many people consider this to be the greatest music video ever made. It probably is, these stunts are for real. The original Plasmatics band (above) is way-hey-hey better, tho.
The Damned-Plasmatics
Girl U Want / Gates of Steel - Devo
Smart Patrol / Mr.Kamikazi - Devo
A great example of what I mean when I say music should be fun first. "Now I go to beaches with my girlfriends, so I make no suggestions with my rear end". Aarrghh! Deborah Harry is the ultimate goddess! Soundguy is bad at first, but adjusts quickly.
The Dirty Surgeon Insurgency on the street.
